Some copper mines closed due to flooding caused by rainstorm in Chile

On June 23, foreign media reported that last Friday, rainstorm led to river flooding, road congestion, and even forced Codelco, the world's largest copper producer, to stop some mining operations.

Codelco stated in an email replying to the question that work at the company's Andina mine has been temporarily suspended. The company stated that although it had "preemptively stopped the operation of the mine and Sewell", the underground mine in Ertniant continued to operate.

In addition, Anglo American plc said on Friday that despite the snowfall in the region, its Los Bronces copper mine is currently operating normally.

Parts of central and southern Chile were hit by rainstorm, which led to the closure of schools and roads, and raised concerns about mudslides. Aguas Andinas Water Company, which supplies most of the capital Santiago, has suspended some treatment plants due to high sediment content. According to El Mercurio, Chile's Deputy Minister of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, said that Chile has reserves to meet Santiago's needs in the next 24 hours.

The government also ordered the evacuation of some urban areas near the riverbank. The governor of the San Diego metropolitan area, Claudio Aurego, called on people to "responsibly" save water.
